Find out more about the ascent of these two amazing mountains

chimanta massive

Only recently explored in any depth, the Chimanta Massive is a very distinct formation in Guayana. Its total surface area is some 1,400km2 and its highest peaks reach 2,700 metres high. It is the source of numerous rivers, the most important of which are the Tirika and Karuay, all of which, like all rivers in the region, are tributaries of the great River Caroni. An expedition led by Professor Otto Huber of the Caracas Botanical Gardens completed an excellent field trip in 1992, the results of which can be found in the book Chimanta, un ensayo ecologico tepuyano, Oscar Todtmann Editores, Caracas, 1992, ISBN 980-6028-16-3.
